About

Recon341 was started by Eric Houck, a US Army Veteran who served from 1993 to 2001 in various roles and assignments consisting of Active Duty (11M), Army Reserve (12B), and the New York Army National Guard (88M).

The name originated in the Mid 90s as a combination of a nickname given to me along with the active duty unit I served in during the early 90's which was the 3rd Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment attached to the 2nd Armored Division and based in Fort Hood Texas (renamed Fort Cavazos in 2023).

During my Active Duty time I was assigned to 3rd Platoon, Bravo Company and started off as as part of a dismounted Infantry Squad. Within 3 months I had transitioned to a driver where I stayed for the remainder of my Active Duty enlistment. I served on a Bradley M2A1 Infantry Fighting Vehicle - Bravo 34 gunned by Spc. Lucas Espinoza and commanded by 1SG Thompson. Throughout the years we went through many different gunnery courses, field rotations, deployments, and attended NTC in 1995. The preparation for NTC is where I was first exposed to military trains as we rail headed our equipment from Fort Hood Texas to Fort Irwin California for the 2 month rotation. Seeing all that equipment including Abrams, Bradleys, Paladins, and MLRS units along with all of the required command, support, transport, and fueler equipment was a sight to behold. It was the first time I ever saw a DODX railcar and I knew then that at some point in my life I wanted to recreate that scene and feeling.

My life long love of the Military along with my passion for fine sale modeling and model trains brought me to start Recon341 as I was unable to find a cost effective solution to create a high quality Military Train and supporting infrastructure. I hope you enjoy these models as much as I like making them.

I am always looking for new models to make, if you enjoy what you see but don't find what you are looking for, please reach out to me at ericmhouck@gmail.com and let me know.
